10 Date Ideas That Don’t Include a Restaurant

Dates are important at every stage of the relationship. Dining out is a delightful experience, but if typical dinner dates don’t work for your schedule, or you’re looking to change it up, here are 10 date ideas that don’t include a restaurant.

  1. Picnic in the park

Hit up your local market to grab some delicious picnic foods like sandwiches, pasta salads, and fresh fruits. Maybe even some desserts from the bakery! Pack it up for a picnic and find a great spot at one of your local parks. Maybe one with a view. If you’re in Portland, Oregon, try Mt. Tabor park.

  2. Make a pizza from scratch
Make your romantic meal together stress free. Pizza dough is quite simple to make! Get the recipe here. Simply add your choice of sauce and toppings, and a glass of wine never hurt.

  3. Get a couple’s massage

Check your local spas and massage therapists for openings. Some therapists are available for home appointments as well! And if you find no luck there, it might be the perfect opportunity for the two of you to test out your own massage skills together.

  4. Visit the art museum
Art is romantic. Point blank. Head to your local art museum or art festival to see an exhibit of interest.

  5. Solve a mystery
If you love true crime podcasts and serial killer documentaries, then this is the game for you. Head to your local Target or Amazon to pick up Hunt a Killer. This engaging murder mystery game is the perfect test for your teamwork skills.

  6. Movie night party for 2
Netflix and chill is never a bad idea. But if you want a more romantic vibe than your average Monday night, try adding a few extra steps. Fun lights, a dessert board, and a signature cocktail make all the difference.

  7. Wine tasting
Instead of dinner reservations, book a wine tasting at a tasting room or vineyard. Make a day of it, or a weekend even. Nothing sparks romance like like time away without cell service.

  8. Build a bonfire
If you’re feeling cozy, try a bonfire. This option may be challenging if you don’t have a yard. Or perhaps it’s the perfect excuse to head to the beach.

  9. Go on a bike ride
A bike ride together could be the breath of fresh air your romantic life needed. Get outside and bike somewhere scenic, or to the main date destination (like ice cream, or a picnic!)

  10. Stargazing
Some call it romantic, some call it corny. But this will definitely provide a thoughtful and fun evening. See if you can scout out the perfect location, pack some snacks, and do some research. It’s even better when you know the constellations and mythology behind them.

More date, and activity guides to come. What would you add to this list? Let us know in the comments and we might include it in the next one.
