You Told Us What Gifts You Want Most From your Partner
In the end of last year, GiftRibbn put out a survey to ask audiences about their gifting experiences in romantic relationships. We wanted to know, are other people confident about their gifting? What do people want? How often do people buy gifts for their significant others?
We sent this survey to our subscribers, followers, and shared on social media. Now, this is not a scientific study, but it could be noted that the survey primarily reached the Portland Metro area. Here is a summary of the results.
Gifting Behavior
In romantic relationships, 90% of couples purchase gifts for birthdays, 80% for holidays, and 80% for anniversaries. And 74% of the survey takers stated that they also purchase gifts for their partner “just because”.
When asked how frequently they purchased gifts in their relationship, the most popular answer was “every couple months”, from 42% of the total survey audience.
When looking for ideas of what to gift their partner, 71% of the audience turns to online stores such as Amazon and Etsy before browsing local shops, social media, or even asking friends and family.
When asked what the biggest challenge of gifting their partner is, the most common response (45% of the total audience) was not knowing what to gift. The top two solutions to this problem that the audience desired are to find better deals, and the ability to preview wishlists or hints.
Overall, people in relationships places the most emphasis on birthdays and holidays, but also enjoy giving smaller gifts throughout the year to let their partner know they’re thinking of them. They don’t always have great ideas of what to gift, generally feel fairly-highly confident about their gifting choices. And when in doubt, they turn to online shopping to find deals and inspiration.
Wishlists
So, what is it that people want from their partners? We gave our audience the following options:
a fun experience/activity
a quick trip or vacation
fine dining
desired product
surprise product
something personalized, handmade or sentimental
Other (please specify)
The audience favored a vacation or trip (30%) as a gift that they would most like to receive from a romantic partner, followed by a fun experience, or something personalized (they tied at 23% of voters each). Though, when asked what gifts they most enjoyed to give their partner, the answers changed. This time, the audience favored the idea of gifting a fun experience (32%) as well as something personalized 22%.
When asked more specifically what products they believed their partners enjoyed receiving, there were some common responses such as clothes , new phone or tech gadgets , and household goods such as tools, decoration, glassware.
the takeaway
The takeaways from this survey were both predictable, and interesting. On one hand, it wasn’t too surprising to see that people highly valued traveling with their partners, purchase gifts quite often, and love a sentimental touch. On the other hand, it’s completely relatable that sometimes, we just don’t know what to gift! Even when gifting for the person that we know best, it can still be challenging. People end up spending so much time and money on finding a gift that shows they care, and even though online retailers like Amazon have great options that can be shipped the same day, who has time to look through that black hole?! This is exactly why GiftRibbn has started producing gift guides. So you can spend less time looking, and more time celebrating!
